In recent times, there have been significant changes in the way Windows Explorer renders its fonts and UI elements. One of the most notable updates is the introduction of light mode, which has changed the overall aesthetic of Metro/Modern UI interfaces. For those who prefer a darker theme, this change can be unsettling.

Personally, I've opted to downgrade my system to Windows 10 v1703, which allows me to maintain the dark mode Explorer that I'm accustomed to. However, this comes with some drawbacks, as newer versions of Windows have introduced significant changes in how they handle dark and light modes between system apps.

For those familiar with Vivalid and its various versions, it's easy to notice the downgrade in later Cent releases. One major difference is the aberration artifacting that becomes apparent when comparing different versions. Another change worth mentioning is the modification to the directwrite option after version 3.0.4, which has resulted in a less desirable rendering.

Despite these changes, there are still some redeeming qualities to be found in later Cent releases. For instance, the theme and color scheme of Cent 3.0.4 remain excellent, with GDI rendering being significantly better than any version that followed. As someone who is still using Cent 3.0.4 (originally released in 2017), I've noticed that multiple websites have broken functionality, including logging-in features like those found on Steam, Twitch, and Disqus.

Overall, the changes to Windows Explorer and Cent releases have resulted in a more complex and nuanced UI landscape. While some users may prefer the newer, brighter aesthetic, others may miss the darker themes of yesteryear.
